Import a Video Clip

Rotoscoping Guide

With Rotoscoping, you can breathe life into your animation by transforming a video clip into a dynamic sequence of frames. This technique involves tracing over motion picture footage, frame by frame, to create fluid and realistic movement in your animation. Rotoscoping is commonly used by animators when they require lifelike action or want to incorporate real-world motion into their projects. Follow these steps to incorporate rotoscoping into your project:

Cartoon-like Drawing Animation:

  1. Import Video Clip: Start by importing the video clip you want to trace over.

  2. Open Frame Edit Menu: Once the video clip import is complete, navigate to the first frame and open the frame edit menu.

  3. Access Image Editor: Select “Edit” to open the image editor.

  4. Add Solid Layer: Add a solid image layer on top of the video frame. Adjust the layer’s opacity to make it easier to trace over the image.

  5. Trace Over Image: Add a drawing layer and begin tracing over the video frame. Take your time to ensure accuracy and detail. For static parts of the image, utilize copy and paste functionality to save time.

  6. Adjust Opacity: Once the drawing is complete, adjust the opacity of the solid layer until only your drawing is visible.

  7. Proceed to Next Frame: Use the frame selection to navigate to the next frame and repeat the tracing process.

Rotoscoping Live Objects:

  1. Open Animation Guides Editor: Access the animation guides editor .

  2. Add Video Clip Layer: Add a video clip layer to import a reference video for your animation.

  3. Position Object: Close the animation guides editor and position your character or prop in alignment with the animation guides video.

  4. Begin Capturing: Start capturing your animation. The animation guides video clip will automatically synchronize with your animation, aiding in maintaining consistency and accuracy.
